The VMO present its spring concert dedicated to the Professor of Conducting, Morihiro Okabe. Morihiro Okabe taught many of the world’s finest conductors, including: Seiji Ozawa, Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Naoto Otomo, in addition to many Canadian conductors where he several summers teaching at Courtney Summer Music Festival and the Conductor’s workshop in Saskatoon, SK. Maestro Hsieh was one of the disciples of Professor Okabe, and hence this concert continues the tribute to an amazing teacher and musician. 

The VMO invites Ms. Ikuyo Nakamichi, one of Japan’s top pianist, to come and perform with the VMO. Maestro Hsieh has performed with Ms. Nakamichi on several occasion in Japan, and Ms. Nakamichi makes her highly anticipated return to Vancouver after successfully performing for the Vancouver Chopin Society. She will perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, a piece that Maestro Hsieh has recorded with Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. The Orchestra will play great familiar and challenging works of the 20th century by Aaron Copland and Igor Stravinsky. A concert not to be missed!

– Copland: Appalachian Spring Suite
