The VMO is delighted to have the following guest artists in the 2011-12 Season:

Caroline Jang, soprano
VMO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERT: STRINGS GALORE

In 2008, Ms. Jang was selected as one of the finalists at Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques Competition in Montreal. She has participated in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau, and many more. She studies under a renowned soprano, Nancy Hermiston.   read more

Laura Vanek, flute
VMO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERT: STRINGS GALORE

Laura is an active solo and orchestral musician and performs frequently with her trio, NOVO Ensemble. She has won numerous competitions and awards including the Concours Européen de Musique. She recently received her masters in music performance from the University of Victoria.   read more

Kaori Otake, harp
VMO Spring: Musical Awakenings

1st prize winner of the Japan International Harp Competition in three divisions, winner of the Indiana University Harp Concerto Competition and awarded the Marilyn Costello Memorial Prize in the USA International Harp Competition. Kaori has given recitals and concerto performances around the world.   read more

Miya Otake, harp
VMO Spring: Musical Awakenings

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, Miya Otake is an active harpist contributing her talent in both performing and teaching. Miya began to play the harp at the age of seven. She has performed in Canada, USA, Europe and Japan, including a recital at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo and Carnegie Hall in New York.   read more

Hannah Han, piano
VMO Spring: Musical Awakenings

When Hannah was nine years old, she was selected to perform for Alexina Louie at the UBC Recital Hall. She was invited as a guest soloist to perform at the I’Park Mall in South Korea, in 2008. In 2010, Hannah performed as a part of the Symphonic Hall of Fame with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Recently in 2011, Hannah was invited to play with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra again in the Tea & Trumpets concert.   read more

Qiao Wang, piano
VMO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERT – A Tribute to Louis Royce Liu

Pianist Qiao Wang has been playing piano since the age of seven and is currently a scholarship winning student of Mr. Lee Kum-Sung at the Vancouver Academy of Music and award winning performer at numerous piano competitions. Qiao has performed internationally in various locations including Italy, Vancouver and five cities in China.  read more

Shannon Chan-Kent, soprano
VMO 9TH ANNUAL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERT

Shannon Chan-Kent has just completed her Masters of Opera at UBC. Some of her operatic credits include Queen of the Night in Die Zauberfloete, Madame Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor, Adele in Die Fledermaus, First Spirit in Die Zauberflote and Fiametta in The Gondoliers. Shannon is also in the film/television and voiceover industry in Vancouver.   read more

Esther Hwang, violin
VMO 9TH ANNUAL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERT

Esther Hwang, sixteen, began violin studies at age three. Since the age of nine, Ms. Hwang has performed as a soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on many occasions. Miss Hwang was the 1st place winner in her age category in 2010 Canadian Music Competition National.  read more
