Kenneth Friedman

Artistic Advisor

Born in Los Angeles, Ken is a leading bassist in Vancouver. He began Double Bass studies at the age of 10 years, with Gary Karr and later with Herman Reinshagen. After completing undergraduate studies at USC, he received a masters degree from Juilliard where he studied with Fredrich Zimmerman.

He recently retired from the Vancouver Symphony after 39 years as a Principal Double Bass. He has been a guest lecturer at Juilliard, New England Conservatory, University of Washington, Banff School of Fine Arts, and the Shanghai Conservatory. He has participated in the Music at Shawnigan and Olympic Music Festivals and is on the faculty at the University of British Columbia.
