Michael Conway Baker

Composer Laureate

Michael Conway Baker has many honours in the field of music. His awards include three GENIES; an (ACTRA) award for best music in a television series along with seven nominations as well as several Body of Work awards. His concert music, now 153 works, includes symphonies, concertos and full-length ballets. In 1991 he received a Juno Award for his Piano Concerto. In 1997 he was invested with the Order of British Columbia and received the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal 2003. In 2006 he was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame. He served as the Composer-in-residence for the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra from 2007 to 2009 and became Composer Laureate from 2009. He is currently Composer-in-Residence with the North Shore Sinfonia.
